For the second year in a row, supporters of the Montgomery Cheetahs’ hosted the “Cheetah-Thon” – a fundraising skate-a-thon event to raise money for the Montgomery Cheetah’s special hockey team. Their goal was to raise $20,000 to help fund ice expenses and programs for the Cheetahs’…the “Cheetah-Thon” raised more than $30,000!
The “Cheetah-Thon” started last year as a Bar Mitzvah project for several of the Cheetah’s mentors. This year, the tradition continued with several more mentors and their parents taking the lead. The event was open to hockey players, figure skaters, family, friends and anyone who loves the ice to go out to support this great cause. The event included food, music, raffles and of course skating!
Team Manager, Sean Twombly explained, “For five years the Montgomery Cheetahs have been an important part of my life. They give my son — and more than seventy other children — a place to be successful in a safe, supportive environment, playing a game that means so much to both us. The Cheetahs pay more than $20,000 a year just in ice costs alone.”
