Election Day might have come and gone, but our appeals for your votes are just beginning!
That’s right! UCT is awarding a $10,000 first place and $5,000 second place prize to two special hockey teams through the UCT Gives Back AGAIN to Special Hockey video contest – and YOU decide who wins! Ten top finalists have been selected from special hockey programs that submitted videos showing how the $10,000 or $5,000 would help their program for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These 10 teams need YOUR support to earn votes. So…GET THE WORD OUT TO GET OUT THE VOTE!
Whether you’re part of a special hockey team or a team supporter, here are some ideas for sharing the word about UCT Gives Back AGAIN to Special Hockey video contest voting:
Get coaches, parents, and volunteers to click in votes daily on UCT’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/UCTinAction and share status updates across social media sites. Remember, BE SURE TO VOTE DAILY!
Post a link to UCT’s Facebook page on YOUR Facebook page and ask your friends to share it.
Email your friends and contacts and ask them to vote. Be sure to include a link to UCT’s Facebook page.
Have a blog? Use it to get the word out about your participation in the contest and ask for votes. Don’t have a blog? Share UCT’s blog posts.
Pitch your story to local media and ask them to do a feature story about your team and the contest. Target newspapers, TV, radio, etc.
Many TV and radio stations provide free time for brief (30-60 second) public service announcements (PSAs). It can be difficult to secure a spot so be sure to call ahead of time to find out who you should send your announcements to and in what format.
Make flyers promoting your team and the contest, and ask local pizza and sub shops – and any other restaurant that delivers food – to distribute them with each delivery.
Canvass neighborhoods and parking lots, leaving flyers on windshields and front doors. Gather a posse of family and friends to distribute flyers at community events.
Create handouts that include quick and easy info about voting and ask local restaurants, grocery stores, banks, businesses, and other community spaces to keep them stocked where individuals can easily see them.
Ask local businesses that send out regular monthly mail if they will drop in an additional info sheet about the contest and your team. Some businesses might even be willing to help create a piece for you.
One of the best ways to promote the contest and your team is through word of mouth. Make sure family, friends, colleagues and others know the details and ask them to encourage their family, friends and colleagues to vote.
You can vote once every 24 hours and voting runs through Dec. 2, 2016, so get the word out TODAY! Note that total votes are not shown on the leader board and that videos change position after each login, so you’ll have to look for your favorite video before voting. The contest is open to special hockey programs in the U.S. and Canada. Winning teams will be announced and awarded the $10,000 and $5,000 cash prize in December 2016.
