By now you’ve surely heard the end of the world is near. Tomorrow, actually, if you believe the doomsday preppers and Mayan calendar followers. UCT employees are pretty confident we’ll be around to ring in 2013, but we figured we’d work on our bucket lists just for fun – and just in case! Silly and serious, here’s what tops the lists of some employees:
Lindsay M. – I would indulge in fine dining at every meal, with no concerns about whether the food is healthy or has too many calories; borrow a large sum of money from my mother-in-law; go to a tropical island with beautiful beaches, even if there’s only enough food for a month or so; buy the most expensive Mercedes with the “do not pay for 90 days” option; volunteer for a space mission to Mars, even if I won’t be coming home; go to Nepal to climb Mt. Everest and get to the highest level possible – no need to worry about the descent.
Dianna W. – I’d love to learn to play acoustic guitar, and I’d carry my guitar with me in my car. That way when I’m at a family gathering or a party and people ask, “Did you bring your guitar?” I’d have it, and everyone could just shout out songs, and I could strum away!
Sandy S. – Have breakfast in bed prepared and served by Iron Chef Mario Batali while staying at George Clooney’s villa in Italy.
Vicki H. – Outside of being with my family, I have two “tops” on my list, based on the end of the world date. If the world is really ending, I’d like to be on a beach with my toes in the sand, looking out over the waves at a beautiful sunset. The perfect way to end a day – or a life! If I’m blessed to remain alive, I would like to visit each state and province in the U.S. and Canada, spending at least a month in each, sampling local cuisine, researching local history and discovering each area’s hidden treasures.
Alice B. – Go skydiving!
Dennis L. – 1) Record a demo. I’ve always wanted to make a recording of songs and become the next new recording star. 2) Have a lean and fit body – the body that you always wish you had but always can come up with an excuse not to accomplish it. 3) Play the piano. You’d think as much as I like to sing that I would be able to play an instrument well, but I don’t, and the one instrument I’ve always wanted to play is the piano.
Lori R. – Race in the Indy 500 and/or write a No. 1 best seller!
David K. – Marry a wine rep!
Joyce W. – If the world really is ending, I want to spend it with my 91-year-old mother, Lois. We’ve talked for years about taking a scenic “Thelma and Louise” sort of trip (without the violence) through Arizona. That way she could show me around Phoenix and Sedona where she lived, worked, partied and eventually married my wild and crazy dad! She’s been ill, so I’m praying it won’t be long before she’s well again so we can start our bucket list adventure!
Ann M. -Go to Stonehenge to celebrate the winter solstice – and the end of the world at the same time!
Elaine T. – I’d like to see all countries in the world living in peace and getting along with their neighbors and other countries. It could happen. I lived to see the Berlin Wall come down. Who expected that?
Sylvia H. – I’d like to meet the President of the United States, shake his hand and tell him “job well done!”
Heather D. – Put out a CD of my own music.
Annette M. – I’d like to go to Africa to see all of the different animals in their native environment. I’d also like to sit in the mountains and watch the eagles soar.
Joe E. – Go skiing, see the Grand Canyon, visit historic spots in Virginia and Pennsylvania, experience Thanksgiving in New York City, see Italy and Chicago, revisit the Christmas Story house, watch the Celtics play at TD Garden in Boston, see the New York Giants play at New Meadowlands in New Jersey, and take a cruise anywhere!
Kulu M. – Buy back the old UCT building in the Short North, since it was just 5 minutes from my house!
There you have it. What’s on your bucket list? We’d love to know. But you’d better share it – or start working on it fast! Time might be running out!
