Making a Difference Together

Making a College Education Affordable

Posted on Nov 01, 2012 by: UCT

As we near Election Day, those of us who live in swing states are receiving a lot of attention from candidates of both parties and from the media.  The speeches and the advertising blitz in the final weeks have been overwhelming.

Over the course of the campaign, the presidential candidates have disagreed on many issues, often vehemently.  Their proposed solutions to many of the nation’s problems are disparate, but there are some areas of agreement.

Both candidates recognize the importance of affordable higher education.  While they may disagree on how to make sure affordable higher education is available to all students, there is no question for either of them that it is important for individual students and for the future of the US. They both also agree on the importance of good teachers at the K-12 level.

While the politicians will continue to debate what role government should play in ensuring that all students who want a college education have that opportunity, we at UCT will continue to do what we have been doing for many years–helping students to achieve their dreams.

UCT has provided scholarships to students through two different scholarship programs.  The May E. Tisdale Scholarship Fund has been in operation since 1959, and the UCT Scholarship Program has been helping students training to be special education teachers since 1960.  Over the years these programs have helped many students afford a college education, and they have helped train many teachers.

We are proud of these programs, and we hope to expand our scholarship offerings in the coming years. Learn more about these programs, and about UCT.
