UCT members make a difference in their communities across North America and positively impact those who live there through their volunteer community service efforts every day. They embody UCT’s commitment to being the place where community and compassion unite and ask for very little recognition in return. That’s why I’m here, to acknowledge all of the good that they do.
As we do every year at this time, we’ve compiled our volunteer and fundraising stats for 2019, and here is some of what we have to report: Our members spent 65,568 collective hours supporting causes and charities that impact their communities. They held around 700 special events and donated $978,650 to these causes and charities. UCT members and the local councils they work through have always decided who and what to support on a local level, and some of their favorite programs include those for the homeless and hungry, veterans, children, seniors and those working to help the environment. Thank you, UCT members! You really do make a difference.
For over 60 years, helping individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities has been UCT’s top project. Members showed their support for this during the past year by dedicating their time and energy to programs like Special Olympics and The ARC, as well as schools, workshops and camps for people with special needs. They also pitched in to help local youth, another key focus for UCT, by sponsoring and supporting local youth sports teams, scout troops, summer camps, student scholarships, Toys for Tots, and organizations like Big Brothers-Big Sisters and the Boys and Girls Club.
In addition to local projects that make a difference, UCT members supported notable causes and charities like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American and Canadian Cancer Societies, Relay for Life, the Terry Fox Run, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, the Red Cross, the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (ARBI), The Salvation Army, and Ronald McDonald House.
Year after year, UCT members make their communities better places to live in through their dedication to volunteering and community service. Their communities are grateful to them for it, and so are we!
